Broken Arrow fisherman drowns another rescued

Stillwater OK Newspress
26 April 1998
Wagner (AP) - A man drowned here after waves driven by high winds filed his boat with water, authorities said.

Mark Wisner, of Broken Arrow, was riding in a bass boat with his friend Derek Wheeler on Lake Fort Gibson in Wagner County Thursday when the boat was swamped, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.

Both men jumped into the water and tried to swim to ashore.

A marina operator at Sequoyah Bay heard Wheeler, 35, crying for help, and he and another man pulled Wheeler from the water.

Wisner, 40, was found about five minutes later.

He was rushed to Wagoner Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival, the patrol said.
