PR Newswire 05:41 p.m Aug 19, 1997 EasternLAKE FOREST, Ill., Aug. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Brunswick Corporation announced today that George W. Buckley has been named president of its Mercury Marine unit. Mr. Buckley joins Mercury from Emerson Electric Company, where he most recently served as president of the Electric Motors Division. Based in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, Mercury is the worldwide leader in the marketing and manufacturing of marine engines under the Mercury, Mariner, Force and MerCruiser brands.
Commenting on the appointment, Brunswick Chairman and CEO Peter N. Larson said, "While at Emerson Electric, George established a track record of increasing sales and profits in a flat marketplace. This valuable experience will enhance Mercury's efforts to achieve its long-term growth objectives in the marine industry." Prior to joining Emerson, Mr. Buckley held significant management positions with British Railways Board, GEC Turbine Generators Ltd. and Detroit Edison Company. Mr. Buckley, 50, holds a Ph.D. in engineering from the University of Southhampton, U.K.
Mr. Buckley succeeds David D. Jones, Mercury's president since 1989. Mr. Jones will continue to report to Mr. Larson and will focus on a broad set of marine industry initiatives.
